How To Find The Best Vail Valley Junior Golf
Junior golf in Vail Colorado is big. If you want to see how big, visit the Colorado Golf
Association web site at www.cogolf.org, where you will find information on women’s
golf as well.
Junior golf tournaments start in April and go all the way through to October As to be
expected, the high elevation of Vail (over 8,000 feet above sea level) limits the times of
year that tournaments can be held there. Also, it is relatively more expensive to hold a
tournament in Vail. In 2005, one junior golf tournament was held there on June 14 for the
age range of 14-18 at the Vail Golf Club.
Membership in the Colorado Vail Junior Golf Association is limited to the ages 7-19, or the
day of college entry (whichever comes first), for both male and female children. Children
younger than seven might be allowed to join, just in case there’s another Tiger Woods out
there. The cost for membership is $30, and that’s a solid number. The membership cost is
not prorated or refundable, no matter what. Still, thirty bucks isn’t much money for the
benefits of joining.
Each member is required to take a clinic on the rules and etiquette of the Colorado Junior
Golf Association. This is mandatory each year until the child reaches the age of 14. Hey,
we don’t want any Caddyshack shenanigans going on in Colorado, and especially not in
Vail. The President of the United States might drop by, or a senator, or some other really
important type. You want to make a good impression, right?
Vail Junior golfers should look into being a caddy for part of their golf careers. The first
benefit of doing this is that you can learn from the highly experienced golfers and pros
just how hard it is to break over the knee and how easy it is to lose
expensive golf balls. Seriously, caddies learn a lot about the game by watching the
techniques of more experienced golfers.
There’s another reason to do this: The Colorado Golf Association has a scholarship for caddies that pays full tuition and board at the University of Colorado in Boulder. With the costs of college going up like the cost of gasoline, this is quite a prize to win.
Speaking of prizes, don’t forget the Junior America’s Cup competition Junior golfers
from eleven western states, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico play for this cup, and only four
boys and four girls from each state compete. You not only need to be a good golfer, but
also a good sportsperson, have discipline, show courtesy, and display the quality of
character, as opposed to being one.
Vail Junior golf is a great activity for children and teens. The sport is highly demanding in
terms of practice, travel, learning self-discipline, especially when the temptation to break
an expensive club across the knee arises. However, with an annual fee of only $30 and
reasonable tournament fees, junior golf is cheaper than say competitive horse racing or
Black Hawk Texas hold ‘em tournaments.
Plus it’s a chance to improve one’s behavior in
everything else and prepare for the real world of higher academics and eventually work.
Knowing how to golf can help your career by providing a means of networking with
others. The popularity of this has expanded over the decades to where golfing is almost a
necessary part of climbing the corporate ladder. Granted, there are other ways to network,
but none as fun as golf – or as frustrating. It depends on where your game is at.
