Vail Colorado is a small town of 5000 people that rests
at the base of Vail Mountain...


on the eastern edge of Eagle County, Colorado. Nearby towns include Snowmass, Aspen, Gypsum, and Antlers. Interstate 70 is the only road in or out of Vail. That’s okay because you probably won’t drive there anyway. Vail is designed to look like a quaint Bavarian village in the Alps… all the buildings evoke those feelings and much of the town is car-free. In fact, parking can be expensive and some hotels don’t even have parking.

So how do you get around Vail? It’s easy! Vail may not be a large town but it does have one of the largest and best free shuttle services in the USA. Buses run regular, timed routes around the city as well as offer express routes directly to the mountain. Ski racks are mounted on the bus in the winter and bike racks in the summer and it’s a regular site to see people carrying their skis aboard the bus… in fact, you’ll agree that it’s probably unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Getting to Vail is easy, too: just fly into the Eagle County airport in Gypsum and catch a shuttle Vail. If you do decide to rent a car, be sure to check out the surrounding area: ski down Snowmass Mountain in Snowmass or Aspen, eat at an Antlers restaurant, and still make it back to Vail for a day of skiing, since these towns are less than two hours away.

whether you’re traveling alone or in a small or large group. It doesn’t matter what your needs are, Vail’s accommodations are very… accommodating! But be sure to book early because Vail is a popular spot (rated as North America’s top ski destination by SKI magazine). You’ll want to order your Vail lift ticket passes. You may find them for sale as part of a ski package (which may also include your accommodations) or you might have to purchase them at a local kiosk. They might even be available at your hotel’s front desk. If you can’t get them online ahead of time, just ask the desk clerk when you arrive.

Other enjoyable activities while you’re in Vail include shopping for gifts and mementos in their quaint stores, dining at their fabulous restaurants, and taking hikes through the glorious nature. If you go during the summer, you can be sure that you’ll get in some amazing golfing at some of the many golf courses in the area. Your perfect ski vacation awaits you. So, Vail lift ticket in hand, you should head out to the mountain for some great skiing and look forward to everything else this small town holds for you to enjoy.
